This auction is for a rare EXCELLENT CONDITION ChelseaMarine Clock used aboard Naval Vessels in the 1950-1954 Korean War Era. Many of the clocks being sold today are touted as WWII but many times the serial number proves differently. Others are from post Vietnam Era. This is the third and last clock I have for sale and it’s the oldest one I'm selling. As usual on the vintage clocks, the serial number (597329) is lightly scratched onto the back side and can be easily seen if turned into the light. The Chelsea Clock web site says that this serial number was produced from 1950-1954. Its the larger 9' clock in black bakelite case and black face with white numbers. It’s a straight 24-hour military time clock, not those ones that have civilian time with military time on the second inside ring. This is truly a piece of Naval History from the Korean war Era. The hour and minute hands are white color and the second hand is silver. These clocks were produced with accuracy in mind for military naval operations. This clock keeps perfect time and is in 'excellent' condition. No dings, cracks or breakage of any type. Many clocks have had the glass broken over the years and replaced but this is 100% original. Original black screw knob, original glass, and original wire glass holder still firmly mounted in frame. It even has the original rubber mounting feet on the back side for screwing to the wall. The inside was overhauled by a jewelry company back in 1960 as the label on back shows. The Navy always took great preventative care of their equipment by periodic contracted overhaul. This clock has some expected light scratches near the key wind-up hole from 60 years of winding it up as many do. No paint whatsoever on the clock as most ships got painted on a regular basis and we weren't always the neatest; we ex-military know how that works. This is a beautiful excellent condition clock. This clock has some very light scratches near the key wind-up hole from 60 years of winding it up. It runs perfectly and keeps accurate time. I don’t have the key for this clock as they went with the first two clocks I sold. But MANY are readily available on Ebay for under $10 if you search on “Chelsea Clock Key”.

Some Korean War History (1950): On 25 June 1950, the young Cold War suddenly turned hot, bloody and expensive. Within a few days, North Korea's invasion of South Korea brought about a United Nations' 'police action' against the aggressors. That immediately produced heavy military and naval involvement by the United States. While there were no illusions that the task would be easy, nobody expected that this violent conflict would continue for more than three years. President Truman ordered U.S. sea and air forces to support RoK forces, sending the Seventh Fleet to the Formosa Straits to checkmate any attempt by China to threaten Taiwan. Adm. Arthur W. Radford, C-in-C Pacific Fleet, was ordered to form a new task force in the Western Pacific (TF 77). By July 7, MacArthur was given a second “hat,” C-in-C UN Forces, and a Unified Command came into existence. The UN made no attempt to direct military operations, handing over responsibility to the U.S. president, his Joint Chiefs of Staff, and MacArthur. In mid-September 1950 a daring amphibious invasion at Inchon fractured the North Korean war machine.
